An Introduction to My Angels

·
Dawn
Bestowed upon each of us at the dawn of our lives is a gift,
As we enter an unknown, endless sea as candles set adrift,
Ravaged by storms, beset by brutal beasts, at times we feel scared, lost,
Lonely prisoners to the violent waters in which we are tossed,

But we seem to have a funny way of finding others at this frightening place,
In the flickering of another struggling candle we find grace,
A friend on their own journey offers strength to help us through the pain,
With the support of each other fragile flames can survive the rain,

Eventually emerging from one of many trials,
Greeted by a new dawn, the candles rest for a while,
And in these joyous days they are reminded of why they held on,
Why they never gave up when all hope seemed gone,

In comparison to such blissful days, all past anguish pales to a dull ache,
No degree of hurt could rival the beautiful day to which they awake,
Now, refined by trials they are even stronger from the battles they braved,
With their love they have each other from the world saved.

Heaven’s Hands

A field of dreams before me is laid,
A million wishes in each bud contained,
A more glorious sight have my eyes never seen,
Everywhere flowers, with angels in between,
If I could, I would lay here forever,
Forget the reason I came, my humble endeavor,
At peace, in love, filled with unbreakable hope,
To escape it all and with my dreams elope,

But looking back at your eyes I know I will not,
Your hearts, by mine could never be forgot,
For each beautiful thing which herein lies,
Sprouted from angel dust, your love in disguise,
Which you gave from your heart when mine was broken,
A heavenly balm, a friendships dearest token,
Now it’s my turn, this healing gift to share,
So I take a breath, melt into this tender place of care,

Silently I breathe out the words of my prayer,
Above me they float, sparkling in the air,
Until a breeze comes along and blows them away,
Carried by doves, they traverse  sunrays,
Scattered by their journey, each finds their place,
Enveloping the angels in a gentle embrace,
I want to do more to show you my love,
But for now I have sent it on the wings of a dove.

  1. Rachel, I absolutely adore your poetry. This is clearly an arena in which you shine. You have a gift for rhythms and rhyme and imagery. Your poems are filled with such love--love of nature, love of humanity. And gratitude. This is a rarity, to be so in tune with your place in the universe and what you are thankful for. Thank you for sharing these personal and beautiful poems. I can't wait to see what you write next!
